Your Summer Routine

Summer is in full swing! And with that, a little bit of chaos may follow. Out of their regular routine, into new camps exposed to new coaches and kids, your children may start to show up a little bit chaotic themselves. So try to be understanding when they’re asking for extra hugs, or following you around more than before, that this is their way of getting re-assured that everything is ok.

Similarly, lean into the mess at home, it’s ok. A messy home is a happy home, full of laughter and child’s play. They may be extra loud and excited, eager to tell you about their new friends. Or they might be a bit down, even crying if things don’t go their way, as a way to release the stress from their new, irregular day.

The start of summer is exciting, but also overwhelming! In particular for the younger kids, who don’t yet conceptualize the end of a season and school year. The newness and change around them is overwhelming them, and their response to a normal stepping stone to adjusting to the new summer routine.
