Resolving One Word Answers

Do you also get one word answers from your child when you ask them about their day?
Yup, most of us do too! But there is a way around this! Simply ask them open - ended questions? Instead of ‘How was your day at school?’, ask ‘What was your favourite part of your day?’ or ‘Tell me something that happened today that made you smile/frown?’ Also, when they’re speaking - simply listen, nod, and wait for more… often they will divulge more detail without further prompts.
