Get Morning Moving!
#topictalk: Do you struggle with keeping your kids moving in the morning?
Younger kids are inherently unaware of time, and how fast it passes. So in the mornings, when we need them to move quickly through the day, it may seem they’re purposely not cooperating. However, telling them over and over to HURRY UP may have a negative effect on them. It can trigger anxiety, stress, and frustration in them. Instead, try to appeal to their rational brain and explain the consequences of their tardiness. If we don’t hurry up, school will start without you and we’ll be late. If they’re engaged in some play, connect with them first. “I see you’re having so much fun playing with your dolls. But now it’s time to pause and start getting dressed for school.” Lastly, try inserting any playfulness into the routine! This will break the monotony of the stressful morning routine.
