Healthy Bodies, Happy Minds - The Link Between Physical & Mental Health

We all know that keeping the kids active is a great way to work out all of their energy, to keep them healthy, and to promote physical activity as an integral part of their health for the remainder of their lives. What we, as parents, often forget to promote is how important physical activity can be for our mental health - coping with stress, fostering feelings of happiness, and promoting body positivity. In Canada, more than 800,000 children between the ages of four and 17 experience a mental health condition, for which the majority never receive formal treatment. Even more interesting though is that the recent rise of mental health challenges faced by Canada’s children and youth is matched by a significant decrease in physical activity participation. At Kidnasium, we know how much physical activity can raise mood levels and confidence. Along with promoting physical activity, Kidnasium's programs are uniquely designed to help children learn to cope with anxiety/stress, to increase self-esteem and self-worth, and to promote healthy relationship building. With all of these skills, the hope is that we are sending our children out into the world with the skills they need to be both physically and mentally healthy and happy for life!
