This Leadership program is designed for aspiring leaders who want to develop their skills and gain hands-on experience in a camp setting. 

Leadership in Training Schedule:

July 7th - August 29th

Counsellor in Training Schedule:

July 7th - 11th; July 14th - 18th

July 21st - 25th; July 28th - Aug 1st

August 11th - 15th; 18th - 22nd

Leaders in Training (1-week program)

Ages 9-12

Cost: $550 for 1 week program

Our Leaders in Training Program (LIT) is a structured course designed to develop leadership skills in individuals through hands-on training workshops and real-life experience working with young children.  This program provides young leaders with training, mentorship, and practical experience to prepare them for future leadership roles. 

Participants will have opportunities for daily reflection sessions to internalise their leadership practice and to share experiences with other camp leaders, in addition to receiving daily feedback and mentorship from staff leaders.

As part of the program, LITs will partake in the following Canadian Red Cross sessions to obtain:

  1. Canadian Red Cross Stay Safe Program! (Ages 9-12 years, 5-6 hours training)

This program empowers young children with essential life skills, providing them with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe when they are away from their parents or guardians, both at home and in their communities. 

Counsellors in Training (2-week program)

Ages 13-16

Cost:  $550 for 2 week program

The Counsellors in Training Program (CIT) is designed to prepare young individuals, ages 13-16, with the skills and knowledge needed to become a camp counsellor, focusing on leadership development, program planning, conflict resolution, safety procedures, and effective communication with children. Week 1 of this program guides our leaders through structured training sessions (including the CRC Standard First Aid Training and a CRC Babysitting Course) and collaborative workshops to build a foundation in child safety knowledge and leadership skills.  Week 2 offers CITs invaluable experience assisting with camp activities while being supported by staff leaders, gaining vital skills to prepare them to be outstanding future leaders.

The program includes daily reflection sessions where CITs come together to share experiences and engage in activities that prepare them for future counsellor roles. They will receive weekly evaluations with ongoing feedback and mentorship from staff. 

As part of the program, CITs will complete the following Canadian Red Cross sessions to obtain:

1.Standard First Aid Training (13 hours of training)

Learn how to save lives in this comprehensive two-day course focused on first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED for adults, children, and infants. 

2.Babysitting Course - (7-8 hours of training)

The Babysitting course teaches youth essential skills to prevent and respond to emergencies. You will learn how to recognize and prevent unsafe situations, make safe choices and promote safe behaviours. Moreover, you will also learn how to feed, diaper, dress, and play with children and babies.

Day 1: Introduction & What Makes a Good Leader?

Day 2: Canadian Red Cross Stay Safe Program!

(Ages 9-12 years, 5-6 hours training)

  • Shadowing designated Senior Camp Leaders - Refer back to key qualities of what makes a good leader.  How do the camp leaders demonstrate these qualities?  

  • Feedback session with Senior Camp Leader

Day 4: Leading a Group (Strategies in practice)

  • Alongside Senior Camp Leaders, trainees will lead a small group of children in camp activities, following policies, procedures and the camp schedule.  

Day 5: Peer to Peer Observations

  • Trainees will get an opportunity to observe and be observed by fellow trainees to develop their skill as a leader.  Trainees will provide feedback on what the other did well and what they could try to incorporate in their leadership practice.

  • Final Friday Fun as a team with campers.

Counselor in Training

  • Review on training from last week.

  • Work with Senior Camp Leaders to plan activities.
